About

Why this browser exists.

A browser is where most of the day’s work and reading already happens. OwnWeb starts from a simple idea: the useful things, apps and assistance, should live there too, run on your device, and stay under your control.

Most browser extensions are small, and most web apps live on someone else’s server. OwnWeb Apps sits between the two: real applications, with their own storage and background work, installed into the browser and run locally.

The AI agent follows the same principle. It works with what you have open and what you have installed, and the browser decides how often it must ask you. A task or an app cannot lower that bar.

None of this needs a new habit. You still open tabs, read pages and watch videos. The browser just does more with them.

OwnWeb Apps

How apps reach the marketplace.

Every app goes through the same gate, whether it is free or paid and whether its source is public or privately submitted.

  1. 1

    Submit

A publisher submits the app’s readable source, publicly or privately to reviewers, with proof they own or are licensed to distribute it.

  2. 2

    Review

Reviewers read the source and check what the app declares against what it does.

  3. 3

    Build and sign

The reviewed source is built into the artifact that ships, and that artifact is signed. Publishers may obfuscate the shipped build; the readable source is what gets reviewed.

  4. 4

    Publish

The signed app appears in OwnWeb Apps, in the browser and on this site, with the same price, publisher and permissions everywhere.

Review reduces risk; it is not a guarantee that an app is free of faults. Obfuscation protects a publisher’s build from casual copying, not from the owner of the computer it runs on.
