Create your own apps
Need a tool nobody makes? Ask for it.
Tell the agent what you need and it builds a small app that lives in your browser. No coding, no hosting and no subscription: the app runs on your device and its data stays there.
- Step 1
Describe it
Say what you need in plain words: a checklist for site visits, a tracker for the kids’ pocket money, a log for your sourdough.
- Step 2
Review it
Before anything is installed you see the app’s permissions and can read its source. It asks for exactly what it declared.
- Step 3
Install and use it
The app opens in a tab like any other. What you enter is saved on your device and is still there tomorrow.
- Step 4
Change it
Ask for a new field or a different layout. You review and approve the update, and your data carries over.
An example
From a sentence to a working app.
A site supervisor wants the same checklist on every visit, with a place for notes and a record of what was found last time.
14 Marsh Road · Tuesday
- Scaffold tags in date
- Edge protection on level 2
- Skip bin not overfull
- First-aid kit stocked
You asked
“Add a notes box under each item, and show what I wrote on the last visit.”
Update ready to review
Under your control
It is still an app, with an app’s limits.
An app you created goes through the same doors as any other. It cannot quietly do more than you agreed to.
- You choose where it is built
- The agent writes the app into a folder you pick. It cannot write anywhere else on your computer.
- Permissions first
- You read what the app can access before you install it, and again whenever an update asks for more.
- Earlier versions are kept
- If a change makes things worse, restore an earlier build. Your data stays in place.
- No account needed
- Apps you create or import work without signing in, and keep their data through sign-in and sign-out.
- Yours to keep
- The app is a folder of readable files. Keep it, change it by hand, or share it.
- Publish it if you likeOpens with accounts
- An app worth sharing can be submitted to OwnWeb Apps, where it is reviewed like any other.
Creating an app needs a capable coding model that you connect, such as Claude Code. How well a request turns out depends on that model; simple, well-described tools work best.
