Local apps
Apps that live with your browser.
Install an app the way you would bookmark a page. It runs on your device, keeps its files where you put them, and shows you exactly what it can touch.
- Step 1
Find
Browse OwnWeb Apps in the browser or on this site. Every listing shows its price, publisher and what it can access.
- Step 2
Review
Read the permissions in plain words. An app that reads files can only read the ones you pick.
- Step 3
Install
The app and any runtime it declares are installed into your browser. Nothing else on your computer changes.
- Step 4
Use
Open it like a page, or type @ and its name in the address bar. Long jobs run in the background and tell you when they are done.
On your device
Useful even without a connection.
Because an app runs locally, the work it does stays on your computer. Whether a given app keeps working without a connection depends on the app, so OwnWeb only says so when it has been checked.
What “works offline” has to mean
- The app and any runtime it declares, such as Python or FFmpeg, are already installed.
- The app does not need a website or service to do the job.
- Your account session is still valid if the app or its licence requires one.
- The exact released version has been checked for offline use, not assumed from how it was built.
An app shows an offline badge only when its released package has been qualified. Local does not automatically mean offline, private or free of network use.
Permissions
Choose what an app can access.
Every app declares what it needs before you install it, and the browser enforces that list. The words are written for people, not programmers.
Before you install PDF tools
Free- files.read
Read files you choose
Opens files only after you pick them.
- files.write
Save files you choose
Writes results to a location you pick.
- app.data
Its own storage
Keeps its settings and working files in a space that belongs to this app.
- background.run
Run work in the background
Finishes a job after you move to another tab.
Permissions are enforced by the browser for the app’s declared list. This is user control over access, not a guarantee against every possible fault.
What apps can do
Real software, not web pages in a wrapper.
An OwnWeb app is a proper program with its own storage. The browser gives it what it needs, and nothing it did not ask for.
- Its own database
- Each app keeps its records in a database on your device, separate from every other app and every other profile.
- Your files, when you pick them
- An app opens the files or the folder you choose and saves where you tell it to.
- Heavy lifting
- Apps can use tools such as FFmpeg and Python for video, audio and data work, installed alongside the app.
- Background work
- A long conversion keeps going while you browse, and a notification takes you straight to the result.
- Works with the agent
- An app can offer actions to the AI agent, so a task can use the app on your behalf, with your approval.
- Apps working together
- One app can use another’s data only when you grant it, for example Dashboards reading from Tables.
- Connected accounts
- Apps such as Mail connect to accounts you add. The browser holds the sign-in, not the app.
- Update, pause, remove
- You decide when an app updates. Disable it or remove it, with its data, at any time.
- Import your own
- Install an app from a folder on your computer, or have the agent build one for you.
